Here at Horizons we are in an exciting season.  As our church family is growing, so is our need for great team members who can help us effectively lead teams of volunteers in ministering the love of Jesus Christ.

We are currently looking for our very first children's pastor here at Horizons and we are stoked about what the future holds.

We are looking for a person who has been called by the Holy Spirit to the work of full-time ministry and who is passionate about working with kids.  We would also like to find a person who loves to worship and is willing to instill that love in the kids they will interact with.  This person should have a knowledge of God's word and a willingness to passionately and creatively share it with kids of all ages.

​Children's Pastor Job Description

The primary responsibilities of the Children’s Pastor will be to provide leadership and oversight for the kid’s ministries at Horizons. They will report directly to the Lead Pastor.  Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Passionately model effective hands-on ministry to kids and their families as well as raising up a team of volunteer leaders to effectively lead and staff Horizons kid’s ministries.

  2. Oversee all ministry activities for children (ages pre-K–5th grade), including Sunday mornings, and special events, such as VBS etc.

  3. Directly leading and/or facilitating weekly kid’s worship services (Discovery Town - 2nd-5th Grades).

  4. Oversee the selection and/or preparation of age-appropriate curriculum for each age level.

  5. Create programming and engaging activities for each age group that facilitates learning and encourages spiritual growth 

  6. Scheduling teams of kid’s ministry volunteers.  It is vitally important that this person be capable of doing ministry through people instead of always doing the ministry themselves!

  7. Plan, schedule, and oversee special events such as family movie nights, VBS, etc.

  8. Provide pastoral care to children and families in the church, including hospital visits, follow-up, etc.

  9. Manage smooth check-in procedures through Planning Center Online on Sundays for all kids areas (Discovery Town, Lil’ D-Town) and track weekly kid’s ministry attendance.

  10. Maintain kid’s ministry budget


1.  A thriving and growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to Christian community.

2.  A confident person who is a self-starter with a strong work ethic.

3.  Effective in both verbal and written communication.

4.  Knowledge of the MacOS operating system, ProPresenter, etc (preferred)

4.  A person who strives for excellence in all they do.

5.  Someone who models healthy Christian relationships and the means by which to biblically navigate them.

6.  Ministerial degree in related field (preferred)

7.  Willingness to work ecumenically within the greater community of faith.
